New Year… New York

I am obsessed with New York at the best of times and this year I’m sure I’m going to be more obsessed than ever. Not only is my second book, due out in July, set in New York, but I also turn 40 this year and I’m determined to turn 40 in Manhattan.

So I’m starting a new regular feature: I *heart* New York.

Tune in every Monday for the most fabulous New Yorkiness I can find.

  1. I’ll look forward to this, then. I spent 5 days there in 1994 and it was absolutely brilliant. I just totally fell in love with the place and its people.

I had the most delicious bowl of noodles I have ever tasted, bought of a stall in Chinatown for a dollar.

There was the moment when a tour bus full of British people erupted into laughter when we saw a sign on a burnt out building in Harlem saying “low cost housing for New Yorkers” while the tour guide was completely mystified by the hilarity.

And just walking around the city – it is the only place I’ve managed to find my way around in my life – is fantastic, as was the morning in Barnes and Noble.

    1. I’m glad you mentioned the noodles. One of my friends said there seemed to be a lot of eating and food in the book and I said “New York is all about the food” πŸ™‚

  2. I’m so excited about this! I think my trip last year increased my obsession by a few hundred percent rather than lessening it so knowing that you will be bringing lovely New Yorkiness to my Google Reader on a regular basis makes me very happy indeed πŸ˜€

  3. I too turn forty this year. I refuse to be glum and am instead thinking about adding a few years to my age instead so that everyone comments on how young I still look. Am also a lover of New York. My most memorable New York moment? Drunkenly belting out show tunes in Marie’s Crisis Cafe in the West Village to the obvious disgust (just jealous!) of the rather haughty resident drag queens.
