Young Adult trailer

You’ve all heard about Diablo Cody’s new movie, right? Charlize Theron plays a writer of teen fiction – you know, like me? Only… Charlize Theron. Here’s the trailer.

I found the trailer pretty irritating, but I like the posters:

(The second one is pretty much my perfect writing outfit.)

What do you think? Will you be seeing this film?

  1. I liked the trailer, and I think the film sounds fab. Cody did an interesting interview with The AV Club, though. (,66267/)

I know she’s self-deprecating more than anything and she may have a kernel of a point, but I also thought, “HEY! That’s my friends you’re talking about.”…

“I was working on Sweet Valley High at the time I was writing Young Adult, so I was in that world and I was thinking about the people who actually produce that content, the people who are hired to write these young-adult novels, and what their inner lives must be like. But I was also thinking about myself, and why I had spent my career writing about teenagers. Like, what’s wrong with me? Why am I totally fixated on adolescence? Honestly, when I thought about it, it seemed like a pretty fucked-up area of interest. I thought to myself, “Am I some kind of stunted woman-child that’s living vicariously through her characters?” And then I thought, “Stunted woman-child—that’s a character.””

(Ps: Never read the comments on The AV Club. You will weep for humanity.)

      1. Ha! The way she said “the people who are hired to write these young-adult novels” just sounded like she was talking about a foreign species. 😉

  2. I’m so torn on this movie (which, by the way, I hadn’t heard of until just now). I mean, Charlize Theron looks like she’s playing a completely unlikeable bitch with no redeeming qualities but I like her, I liked Up in the Air Thank You for Smoking and Juno so…..

    1. Yes, horrible character, but I guess that’s the point. And I loved Up in the Air and Juno (don’t remember much about Thank You For Smoking, but I think I liked it), so I’ll definitely be seeing it. I don’t like Patrick Wilson though…

  3. I honestly don’t ow if I’ll watch this. I love Juno but it looks like she’s going to “come to her senses” and “grow up” and stop writing YA…. Which is just stupid!

    1. Do you think? I assumed she would come to her senses, grow up, and stop acting like such a beeyotch… didn’t think about her suddenly writing ‘grown-up’ books. :/
